Whataburger brought its fan-fueled online museum, The Whataburger Museum of Art, to life for the first time ever as a part of SXSW 2025. Featuring artwork created by fans for fans, the gallery was open to the public for two days. Fans got to experience the passion, creativity and stories that make Whataburger more than just a burger joint — and even got to steal a Whataburger table tent or two.

Banksy had just execute the shredding stunt of the £1m Girl With Balloon as the final item in the Southeby’s auction. An important angle of the Whataburger Museum of Art is staying relevant in the art world commentary as it pertains to authenticity in the good food and culture around Whataburger. In this case, “Life Imitates Lunch” i.e. you shred paintings much like you shred potatoes. ; )
It’s not everyday you find love. Whataburger has it. The real deal. The love our fans have for us is so deep that artists are spending their time and energy creating Whataburger-themed art. That’s pretty special. It was time to show we’re inspired by them.
94% of artists experienced a loss of income due to the pandemic. 2020 had been challenging for many, and artists are no exception. There was no better time to support and celebrate Whataburger fans whose artistic work aims to uplift and connect us.
